Kindergarten Curricula

  • The Bee Bots are physical devices that allow students hands-on experience with computational thinking and command/code input. The students must think through the challenge, designing and debugging a code that will allow the Bee Bot to complete the task.

    -The lessons are teacher-designed. There is no online curriculum, but this is the website for the product.

  • Heggerty is a phonemic awareness curriculum used in whole groups to move students from basic phonemic awareness such as initial sound fluency to advanced phonemic awareness including segmentation, additions, deletions, substitutions, etc.

  • Curriculum Associates: i-Ready Personalized Instruction uses insights from a diagnostic assessment to create a personalized path of engaging online lessons. In this way, students receive additional individualized instruction and practice in areas where they need the most support.

  • Open Court is a research-based curriculum that focuses on foundational skills as the critical building blocks for literacy. It encompasses the science of reading research that empowers teachers to teach in all literacy areas. In the foundational (green) band, the following skills are taught: phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, decoding and phonics, word analysis, and fluency. Open Court also has a reading and responding band and a language arts band that covers vocabulary, comprehension, inquiry learning, writing, spelling, and grammar.

  • Students are taught in whole group and small groups daily per the Alabama Literacy Act. They are also involved in connected daily practice activities. Our Tier II intervention block allows for more specific needs to be met when needed with data-based instruction based on student needs. Students in need of more intense additional support and who qualify based on data and performance will receive Tier III. All instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of the learner with both intervention and enrichment.

  • Read Naturally is an evidence-based program that combines research-proven strategies that allows students to work with high interest material to improve their fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This program uses teacher modeling, repeated readings, and progress monitoring to motivate students and improve reading achievement. This program is used in Tier I, Tier II, and fluency core support groups.

  • Curriculum Associates: Ready Mathematics helps teachers create a rich classroom environment in which students at all levels become active, real-world problem solvers. Through teacher-led instruction, students develop mathematical reasoning, engage in discourse, and build strong mathematical habits.

  • Scratch Junior allows students to use icon blocks to build code in a digital format. This block coding is a basic form of computer based coding presented in a developmentally appropriate manner. As students progress, their coding grows in complexity, allowing them to design more dynamic programs.

    -The lessons are teacher-designed to focus on a progression of specific skills. The free app and example lessons are available online.

  • SPIRE is a systematic, explicit multisensory program based on the science of reading to help fill in literacy deficits. It incorporates phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension in teacher-led lessons that are reinforced by ample practice opportunities.

Students build models using LEGO building bricks and robotic components. The robotic components are controlled by student created coding on their iPads. First Grade students continue to program with block coding.

Guidance Counseling Curricula

  • Our school is committed to your child’s complete wellness and life-long health. Therefore, throughout the year, we will be utilizing the evidence-based P.A.T.H. curriculum. Prevention and Awareness for Total Health (P.A.T.H.) is a school-wide approach to address state-mandated topics, promote positive coping skills, and strengthen character building. The purpose of this comprehensive curriculum is to concentrate on critical prevention areas and expand on additional life skills and character traits. The program contents provide grade-level comprehensive lessons for each of the four domains: bullying, substance awareness, types of abuse, and mental health; plus, seven lessons for character education.
