Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing: The Holt McDougal Literature Grade 9 text provides both literary and informational text that align with the English Language Arts standards. It also highlights targeted objectives to help in mastering the knowledge and skills students will need for college or for a career. The text provides lessons with embedded vocabulary, background information, and writing lessons.
Grade 10 English

Literature, Grade 10 aligns with the Alabama Course of Study to provide students with diverse texts, both fiction and nonfiction. Students are able to read and write, with teacher supports, to become more effective communicators.

The Alabama Course of Study for English Language Arts sets standards that guide learners to communicate effectively, develop an appreciation for literature, understand the diversity of literature and society, and utilize digital resources to function productively in an ever-evolving global community. The standards specify the skills and understandings needed for post-secondary and workforce applications in multiple disciplines. This course reinforces what students have previously studied in grammar, structure, and usage. The course is designed to enhance a student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen.

Grade 12 English

This English course is designed to assist each student’s growth in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. English 12 should be both challenging and enjoyable as we read and analyze many pieces of literature from the British Isles and additional informational text. We will practice grammar, structure, and usage skills through multiple writing assignments. Senior students will be better prepared for real-world experiences after high school through reading and writing workplace documents and creating a senior portfolio to assist them in college scholarship applications and job applications.
