About Us
The Gigawatts STEM robotics team is a student-oriented group that competes in FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC). FRC is a worldwide competition that challenges students to design, build, and program robots to compete in a series of challenges while running their team as a business. This program teaches students 21st century skills and prepares them for life beyond college.
Our team is made of people from all different backgrounds and academic levels, but we all have one thing in common – our passion for STEM education. STEM has given all of our team members the opportunity to make a difference and take part in the future. Since the day we started our team, our mission has been to spread and ensure the impact of STEM education in our area and beyond.
We have been participating in FRC for the past 5 years, and have consistently placed in the top 15% of teams in the world. Some of our most noteworthy accomplishments include being honored as the first grade school team to receive the Rising Star Award from the National Space Club, as well as being honored as the Southeastern Region Chairman’s Award recipient. We are also the first ever team to win the Magnolia Regional Impact Award. Over the time that we have been a team, we have created a flourishing network of STEM education across 3 younger teams through grades K-12 in our school system, and with several businesses across the community. We have a passion for including our community in our work, and help give back to them in any way we can.
