Built in 1988, Fort Payne Middle School is one of four schools in the Fort Payne City School System. It is situated in the foothills of Lookout Mountain in Fort Payne, Alabama.  Our current principal, Shane Byrd, has served here since 2006. FPMS has a diverse student population of grades 6-8 of close to 1,100 students.  The following is our demographic breakdown: 42% Hispanic, 3% black, 52% white, less than 1% Asian, and 1% American Indian.

FPMS strives to prepare students to have the skills needed for college and career readiness in the 21st century. The sixty-three certified teachers at FPMS enhance the learning process through technology integration. Every student is issued a digital device and all classrooms have interactive whiteboards. Schoology is utilized as our classroom Learning Management System. The school also implements a year-round digital citizenship curriculum.

Along with the general academic and extra-curricular activities offered at FPMS, electives are also available to seventh and eighth grade students. Some of the electives include Project Lead the Way (PLTW), Robotics, iTech, Guitar, Basic Theater, Archery, Art, etc. Eighth grade students are required to take Career Preparedness I through ACCESS before moving on to FPHS.
